Flooded Apartment
Guten Abendschön!
I'm sorry that I didn't write one last week so this one might be a bit on the long side.
I'll tell you a funny story before you get bored. This morning we were studying and I hear this sound of water draining. I didn't think much of it but when I got up our whole hallway was flooded. There was a tube that unconnected from our washer so all the water as going on the floor. So we whipped out some towels and tried to soak it up. Good thing I've had lots of practicing with flooding basements so it was a synch.
Germany was crazy last week. We got a giant storm over all of Germany. So we had tons of high winds and heavy rain. We would wake up to the wind howling, it was wild. We were advised to stay in doors because it got pretty wild outside. One member had a tree fall over close to her house.
This week I have been studying in Sister Barden's, dad's book that he wrote for missionaries. He talks about weaknesses and how our inadequacies are there to make us meek unto God. He uses the story of Moses found in 2 Nephi 3:17
"I believe that in Moses’ mission, his weakness played a crucial role in calling down the powers of heaven. Why? I believe if Moses didn’t acknowledge his weakness, he may not have pleaded as fervently and as desperately for the powers of heaven to help him. If he was mighty in speaking, he may have relied more on himself than on the power of God. Just like Moses, your weaknesses may be in place to encourage you to use the powers of heaven; powers that come only when they are invited by worthy servants of God."
We are given weaknesses so we will be meek and call upon God so that he can help us.
These past 2 transfers we've been really trying to focus on the youth and strengthen their testimonies. There's this one boy, his name is maxi and we're really trying to prepare him for a mission. He's 17 and doesn't know if he'll serve. So I've been able to set up a great relationship with him and we're trying to show how great missions are and get him excited about it. He told me 2 weeks ago that he's been looking into BYU pathways and I'm so excited! That's a big step for him and his dad has mentioned to us that he's been really progressing towards a mission. I'm so glad that I get to help him and join him during this decision making time in his life.
I got to attend my grandpa's funeral this past week over zoom and that was really sweet. I got to learn a lot about my grandpa and who he was. A lot of the things that my aunt and uncle said, I didn't know before. It was honestly such a cool experience being able to watch it and at the same time be in Germany. I know that I'll see my grandpa again and I'm so happy he gets to be reunited with his wife. He missed her a lot and I'm glad they aren't separated anymore.
As for the work: we're having a Blitz week. Which means that every Bahn or Bus ride we're talking to someone, everyone we pass on the street we talk to. Of course we do this normally everyday but now it's just more focused and centered on finding a new friend. We also had a good lesson with one of our friends named Günther and he is so awesome. He has a testimony about the book of Mormon and Joseph Smith, but he doesn't see the need to be baptized again. So this week we're meeting with him again and we're going to be focusing on the priesthood and proper authority. We also have an eternegator named Bernd. He's been investigating the church for 5 years and is pretty much already a member. He comes to church every week, but has a Problem with coffee. He just can't stop drinking coffee. We've tried a lot of things to keep him accountable enough to stop drinking but nothing has seemed to work. This past week He told me that he went the whole week without drinking any coffee and that it wasn't a Problem. I'm so excited and can see the small progress that he's finally been able to make.
We've also had some success on the streets. This one guy that we talked to, I saw him on the Bahn going to Innenstadt, which is the place we do our street contacting and I didn't really think much about him or have a desire to talk to him. Then when we were walking around he passed us and we stopped him. He seemed pretty interested, we gave him a Book of Mormon and set up an appointment for the next week. So that was pretty cool hat God gave us another chance to talk to this guy. The other one is a young man from Brazil. We talked to him a bit on the train and then we had to jump off. We gave him our card and immediately regretted getting off. He was such a cool Find and we didn't even get his contact. We were feeling down about it, but when we got home that night we saw that he texted us. It was such a wunder and we were so happy. Sister Wallgren and I were jumping up and down squealing because we were so excited.
Have a great week. Ich hab euch so viel lieb!
